Getting married in Oregon - what you need to know!

Marriage license


You marriage license can be obtained from  any Oregon county and it will be valid in all counties. 


You will need to: 


  1. Be at least 18 years of age (or 17 if accompanied by parent who signs a consent form)
  2. Each show driver’s license or other photo ID card for identification
  3. Pay the marriage license fee of $60 in cash or money order

Other important information: 


  1. There is a 3 day waiting period before marriage license becomes effective. However, the waiting period can be waived by filling out a separate form and paying an extra $10 fee, making the license effective immediately.
  2. The license is valid for 60 days and no blood tests are needed
  3. The license can be used in any county in the state of Oregon
  4. The application process takes approximately 15 minutes
  5. After your ceremony you may obtain a certified copy of your marriage license you will need if you are going to change your name



Apply for Your License by Mail

If you are coming from out of state and don't arrive until close to your wedding date, Washington County issues marriage licenses by mail. 

You want to give enough time for requesting the application for the marriage license and then receiving the license.
